* The ICMS library provides a wide selection
of both classic and contemporary literature suitable for many reading levels and interests. Annual themed decor, a well-organized selection of materials, an adjoining library computer lab, and the expertise and passion of our librarian, all make the ICMS library a great place to be.

AR Program – Throughout sixth, seventh, and eighth grades, students at ICMS go through the Accelerated Reader program. Students’ individual reading levels are assessed on a regular basis in order to provide reading materials most beneficial to each students’ learning. Students track their own progress, and teachers instill the importance of pleasure and educational reading by modeling their own silent reading during daily DEAR (drop everything and read) time. We also offer the opportunity for students to listen to and discuss novels that are read aloud instead of reading silently. Students make take AR tests on these novels and can look up books and point values on the Accelerated Reader website, www.arbookfind.com.

Library Time – Eighth grade students visit the library each Wednesday for forty minutes. During this time, they return or renew old books, peruse shelves for new selections, and read silently at tables throughout the room. Occasionally during the year, our librarian will do a read-aloud of a novel that relates to and enriches the curriculum.

Rebecca Caudill – 2010 – This year, many of our students will participate in the voting for the Rebecca Caudill Award. The twenty nominees have been flying off the shelves, and students who read at least three will vote in February. There are titles from many genres, and they are enjoyable for adults as well as youth. Check them out today at… www.rebeccacaudill.org.
